Summer Camp 2024 – Walt Disney

The summer camp started with a bang on 12th February 2024 for 2 weeks. The topic was most exciting, for the young and the old alike – Walt Disney.

The students excitedly entered a beautifully decorated classroom with the Disney song playing for them.

We started with the introduction to different genres of movies and children were then made to write their favorite genre and why. This was successfully done by all the students. Their reasons for liking a particular genre were both unique and unusual.

We then went on to introduce Walt Disney, his earlier life, personal life, his achievements and his popular movies. A memory game was played by the students wherein they had to list movies made by Disney.

Worksheets were given to students with a comprehension of Walt Disney. This fulfilled our dual purpose of improving their English skills as well as learning about Disney.

Detailed information was given to students on the main Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and their families. They were then given word search and crosswords related to the same. Children thoroughly enjoyed these activities and small gifts were given to the winners to encourage them.

The children also made ice-cream stick bookmarks with their favorite Disney character.

The summer camp covered 2 stories – Aladdin and the Magic Lamp and The Lion King. The stories were read for them and the video of the stories was also shown to the children. This was followed by story worksheets and oral questions. They thoroughly enjoyed the stories.

The students also enacted Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. The entire play was dramatized by the students themselves without the help of teachers. Their efforts and outcome is commendable. A song from the movie Aladdin – A Whole New World was sung by the students.

We ended the summer camp with something as magical as Disney movies – A Magic Show. It was organized in the school hall and the students of all standards enjoyed it thoroughly.

It was a satisfying end to the camp knowing that children learnt of Walt Disney and his work.
